A Closer Look at Our Hotel

Beyond our rooms, several spaces make up the heart of our property. Guests find quiet gardens, distinct dining options, and a shop filled with history and curiosities. Each space carries its own character, offering more ways to spend time here beyond a place to sleep.

Three Gardens Bring the Grounds to Life

The Secret Garden

Located behind the Fire & Ice lobby, this garden includes four life-sized bronze statues and fountains. Rescued from overgrown trees and rebuilt after a wall collapse, it carries the feeling of a European formal garden, complete with a small Hobbit Hole tucked among the greenery.

The Hosta Garden

Set on the grounds of the Grand building, this space features a 30-foot stream and waterfall alongside almost 200 varieties of hosta. Its terraced walls date to 1881. Patio tables and chairs make it a fitting spot to dine while watching the sunset over the Mississippi River.

The Daylily Garden and Gazebo

Located across Main Street, this garden began in 2017 and features a large wrought-iron gazebo where guests can watch eagles fish the river. Dozens of one-of-a-kind daylilies, hybridized locally, fill the grounds, adding color and character to this newer addition to the property.

A Trio of Dining Options

The Empire Room

Our fine dining restaurant sits within the Hotel de Ville Grand building, adding elegance and atmosphere to the property's dining identity. As one of the signature spaces on site, it offers guests a stunning setting for a memorable meal during their stay.

Alfresco Pizzeria

Formerly the longtime home of Fin and Feather, this restyled space showcases original 1870 ceilings and trim alongside restored river views. Guests can choose from a variety of fresh toppings, specialty pizzas, salads, and tortellinis, all served in a casual setting along Main Street.

Fire and Ice

This French-style coffee and ice cream shop grew into the heart of the hotel itself, informally serving as its guest lobby. Guests return here for fresh-ground gourmet coffees, rich pies, and ice cream, with access to the Secret Garden just beyond.
