Fire & Ice

The Hotel de Ville literally grew out of and around the Fire & Ice, Wisconsin’s own “Chocolat Ice Cream Shoppe.” Originally opened in 1981, it was this little ice cream shop that brought us to Alma in 2005 and whose building we purchased that became the Hotel de Ville. And the rest is history.

Visiting the shop and its wonderful “secret garden” has become a tradition for many river road travelers. The coffee and desserts were added in 2005, as the renovation to the interior had become complete and expanded to the gardens hidden behind the building. The garden looks as if it has been ripped from the pages of a European travel magazine!

Fire & Ice informally serves as the Hotel’s guest lobby. And it is here that our guests always return to enjoy fresh ground gourmet coffees, rich pies and of course decadent ice cream. And it is the gateway to our own Secret Garden.
